On the sixth day of Christmas…
Sleep Under the Christmas Tree
Growing up, sleeping under the Christmas tree was a well-honored tradition. It usually took place the night we decorated the tree. I remember the OLD red and green ornaments, covered in string, that would snag and pull the whole ornament apart.
Along with the ornaments, my mom would put a roll of lace around the tree. It was her job to put the lights on the tree (before pre-lit trees were a thing), the lace, and the red and green ornaments. My sister and I could put the homemade ornaments wherever we wanted. Behind us, my dad would pull out his old Christmas records, hook up the speakers to his record player, and turn on Andy Williams’s Happy Holidays.
And then we would put pajamas on and bring our pillows and favorite blankets to sleep, facing the tree and the glowing lights, prepared for dreams of magic and wonder.
At least that’s how I remember it.
Have you ever slept under the Christmas tree, dreaming dreams of magic and sugar plums? What traditions do you have around decorating your Christmas tree?
