Top 5 Wednesday
The topic for today’s #T5W is: Series that got worse with each book/season. Click HERE if you want to join in on the fun.
Like usual, I had a hard time keeping this to 5 so we’ll see what I end up with.
In no particular order:
- The Mortal Instruments
I read The Infernal Devices first and LOVED them. Will Herondale is still one of my favorite book boyfriends. (although I didn’t love the end of that, but it wasn’t bad enough to put on the list) SO I picked up this series with high hopes. I read through book 3 and when they still thought they were BROTHER and SISTER and decided they didn’t care anymore I couldn’t take it anymore. It felt like this series was being drawn out just for the sake of selling more books.
I was a definite Twi-hard back in the day. In fact, I’m currently reading Twilight again. Just for nostalgia’s sake. But the rest of the series is really a drag. And it gets worse. And worse. Until you read book four and you’re like “PLEASE END ALREADY!”
OK, I liked Matched the first time I read it. I thought the society was interesting and I even believed the whole Ky vs Xander triangle. But by book 2 there was NO REASON she should have picked Ky. Honestly. He was possessive and moody and lame. Then in book three it was just worse. I kept thinking she’d come to her senses (her being the character Cassia) but no. And the society and disease and all that stuff was just a bore to me.
- Court of Thrones and Roses AND Throne of Glass
This series is a real heart breaker to me. Both are. First, I LOVED Throne of Glass. I’ve re-read it for each book release through book 5 even. So yes, I know it pretty well. However, book 5 came out and Whoa! It’s like all the author cares about now is everyone hooking up. And she describes it SO GRAPHICALLY. Too much for a YA book in my opinion.
Court of Thrones and Roses got to the sexy point much quicker. That was pretty much the general purpose of book two.
- The Selection
Such a fun Idea. Essentially the Bachelorette but you become queen in the end. Awesome, right? But *shakes head* I don’t even know how to explain it. The main character is annoying. Books 4 & 5 are worse with a different main character. And it just drags on for far. too. long.
- The Ghost Bird Series
This is probably the worst of all of these in my opinion. This book, Introductions, starts with literally introducing everyone. Its one girl, Song, and like 6 boys or something. And she likes ALL OF THEM. As in the author wants to guessing which one she really likes. Then the next book comes along and there is no plot, no purpose to the story. It’s just a girl and her interactions with all these guys and who does she like and THERE IS NO PURPOSE TO THE BOOK! So, I kept reading in hopes that I just missed something. I read through Introductions, book 1 & 2 and stopped when the author introduced a teacher that she now flirts with. Oh my gosh!
SO there you have it. My Top 5 book series that became worse over time.
And because I was looking through my Read books, I came across the first books in a series that I never continued because of book one. I have nothing more to say other than… I just couldn’t, they were so bad *shakes head while typing*
