I wrote this YA Contemporary Romance during NaNoWriMo 2016.
It’s a YA version of the Bachelorette!
When a group of high school students decide to film a Bachelorette-type dating show called Picking the Prom King as their fundraiser, Prom Queen Taryn promises her best friend that he will win. But when filming begins and Taryn starts falling for someone else, she has to decide which has more importance: Keeping her word or picking her heart.
Taryn Christensen has a jilted view of men. Her father skipped town and left her now-single mother struggling to pay the bills. When her high school band picks Taryn to be the star of their Bachelorette-styled YouTube fundraiser show, her first thought is: No way! But when she realizes she can help her band raise the much-needed funds for their European Tour, she decides to help. She convinces her best friend, Brett, to be a contestant with the promise that he will win and become the Prom King.
Charlie Bolton-video gamer, debate team member, and trumpeter-can’t stop thinking about Taryn after seeing her at the drive-thru window. When he finds out that the star of the fundraiser show he’s signed up for is the same Taryn, he thanks his lucky stars. That is, until he sees her flirting with Brett every time the cameras are near.
As filming progresses, Taryn and Charlie can’t hide their chemistry and the viewers can see it. Taryn is left with the heartrending decision to keep her word and choose Brett, or pick her heart and choose Charlie.
