Anyone who follows my blog and actually reads it knows that my favorite book is Edenbrooke by Julianne Donaldson. I mean, I slip it into at least 1/2 of my posts, if not more, right? It’s pretty much the perfect romance, so if you’re in the market, I highly recommend it. I just finished it again… for the 8th time. So I’m not going to review it again, but you can check out my past review HERE.
I read Edenbrooke in 2013 for the very first time. After I reach THE END I put the book down and said, I am going to write a book. I had no idea where to start, though. So I emailed Julianne and asked her my questions. And you know what? SHE RESPONDED. It was probably the best day of my life. It started me on this long journey of writing, discovering myself, and finding my creative voice.
I had the opportunity to meet Julianne in 2013 at a book signing. We talked about her book and about the parts of a book that writers stress over (like, what is the MC’s need/goal?). Until then, I hadn’t been much of a critical thinker when it came to reading. I either liked a book or didn’t. I’m still not great at it, but I try to pick out the basics in a book now.
April 2013 when I first met Julianne
Since my meeting, I wrote a book and named my MC Julianne after her because I will be forever grateful for her email back, giving me hope that I could be an author as well. I have written 2 more books, published a book of poetry, and I’m working to submit a book now.
I met her again this week. She came to my local library for an event and of course I had to be there. It was fun to sit with many other people who love her work as well but I doubt that most are as grateful to her as I am. Her work speaks to me, she inspires me, and I hope to one day be published so I can be cool like her.
So, thank you Ms. Julianne Donaldson for helping me believe I can be an author as well. I look forward to your next book!!
