This is a snippet from my current WIP
As soon as she looked up at Sam, she noticed Luke walking towards them beside the cars. A jolt of anxiety shot through her and the humiliation of Spanish class came crashing through her brain. Her face burned as she remembered each smirk, each snide remark. And she could never forget his crushing remarks about her emotional inability.
She watched the way Luke walked, full of confidence and pride. He knew his place at school and he owned it. He wore his backpack high on his back, over his polo shirt. And he wore his jeans loose but not too baggy. She sighed and her heart fluttered. Why was this her life? Why did she long for the Luke she used to know? Why did he cut her with every word he said? Why couldn’t she— “Oomph”
Charlotte dropped her binder on the ground before she realized the she had run into something. Papers flew out at the impact.
And time stopped.
She could see Luke mid-step, with a look of amusement on his face, as if laughing. She turned to see Sam with shock on his face, his mouth formed into a word, probably her name. Other students looked in her direction, some laughed, others looked indifferent. And then she looked down and saw her first day’s notes and homework assignments in a mess at her feet.
And before she could process what happened, time started moving again and sound crashed into her.
