In case you live in a far, remote corner of the universe and hadn’t heard that Taylor Swift released her first single in like EVER, then I am here to tell you- TAYLOR SWIFT RELEASED A SINGLE!!!
When all her social media went dark earlier this week and she teased us with 5 second clips of snakes, I knew whatever was coming would be big.
In true Taylor fashion, she did not go small. That’s for sure.
Her lyric video had 500,000 views in the first 20 minutes. This morning when I checked again, it was at 7.2 million. In less than 12 hours! Needless to say, I’m pretty sure I wasn’t the only person waiting for whatever Taylor wanted to tell the world.
HOWEVER, I had to wait until today to post about it because I wasn’t quite sure how I felt. The first time I listened to it, my reaction was along the lines of- hmm, ok. So that just happened.
And then I listened again and again and again (because, it’s truly addicting.) And the more I listen, the more I really like it. I mean, this is Taylor. When has she ever done something we expect?
The cover art for her album, Reputation, releasing this November
Last year was kind of a mess for her.
The media and social networks TRASHED HER. I will admit, I was/am in the boat along with everyone who questioned that Tom Hiddleston stunt. I even cringed a bit when I read about the video that shattered all our trust in Taylor. How could I not? I mean, the evidence was there.
And then she went under the radar. Her squad started to dissipate. We no longer saw happy photos of baking in her kitchen, or her lovely kitten, Meredith.
Some started to say, “serves her right. She brought this upon herself. That SNAKE.” Others stayed true and supported her, albeit more quietly than before.
And a year passed. No music. No headlines. Nothing, until her court appearance recently.
So, when she cleared her media accounts, blacked out her website, and posted her first video of a snake’s tail, I knew we were in for something. This was no longer Taylor Swift crying Teardrops on her Guitar over a boy named Drew. This wouldn’t even be the Taylor Swift of your Wildest Dreams. This was something new.
And I had a thought…
What if we were wrong last year? What if she had dated Tom Hiddleston for real? What if she really hadn’t known all the details about that infamous LINE? What if the evidence had been tampered with?
What if this new album would be Taylor’s revenge on everyone who doubted her, who called her a snake, and kicked her to the curb?
What if this is Taylor saying,
“You think I’m a snake? I’ll show you a snake. Watch out. Here. I. Come. Look What You Made Me Do.”
What do you think of her single, Look What You Made Me Do? What are your thoughts about this new version of Taylor Swift?
