The Blog Further Up and Further In hosts something called Beautiful People for writers and each month they list new questions to help you get to know your characters and story better. And I thought, you all want to know more about my character, right? I know you shook your head emphatically and said, “Yes please, I want to know more.”
Okay, okay, I’ll oblige. Here you go.
Today I’ll spotlight Charlotte Pearlman, from my WIP Senior Year Sonata
How did you come up with this character?
Charlotte came to my mind first, before anything else about the book. I wanted to write someone who is a middle child with two talented siblings around her. And even though Charlotte is very talented in her own right, she doesn’t count it because it’s not in sports like her sisters.
Have they ever been starving? Why? And what did they eat to break the fast?
She often feels starving after spending hours at the piano and her go to meal is pizza at Pam’s Pizza around the corner from her house.
Do they have a talent or skill that they’re proud of?
She wants to be a classical pianist which is a pretty cool talent
List 3 things that would make them lose their temper.
When people accuse her of dating Sam (because she’s totally NOT dating him!)
Anything that Luke says to her
Being proved wrong
What is their favorite type of weather? Least favorite?
She loves fall because it long sleeve weather but not bundled into obscurity. Lease favorite is Summer because it’s so hot. She spends most of her days inside.
What is their Hogwarts house and/or MBTI personality?
Definitely Ravenclaw. She’s all about studying and good grades and intelligence.
Are they more likely to worry about present problems, or freak out about the unknown future?
Charlotte thinks more about the future. She feels so in control with every day life that she spends her time focusing on what happens after high school.
What is their favorite thing to drink?
Hot chocolate, hands down
What is their favorite color? Least favorite?
Black and White because it’s clean and crisp and perfect. Least favorite would be Orange.
What is a book that changed their life?
A book that changed her life… hmm I’ve never thought of that. I think it would have to be Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, because Elizabeth Bennet doesn’t need society or a man and doesn’t fawn over the wealthy like the rest of society. Charlotte lives her life that way.
