So, yes, I read a lot. And so much of my life is about what I will read next or what I’m reading right now, or finding more time to read. I usually read 1-2 books, an e-book, and an audiobook all at the same time until one wins out and I finish them all one by one.
BUT today’s post is about my writing. It’s taken a back seat this year so far because I have struggled with my story. I finally put it aside to start something new. I asked myself, HOW CAN I FIND MY WRITING GROOVE AGAIN?
FIRST, I decided to bring creativity back into my life by completing the Poem a Day Challenge that Writers Digest posted about. April is poetry month so I have written some sort of poem every day. I feel like I’m running out of ideas at the moment though so they are struggling 🙂 Yet, I trek on in my challenge.
NEXT, I decided I am going to participate in the NANOWRIMO Summer Camp in July. You get to pick your word goal. That’s pretty much the only difference. Last year I wrote 30,000 words in July. That will probably be my goal again. Will you be NaNo camping in July?
THAT BEING SAID, I have started outlining a book to write in July. I use Outlining Your Novel by K.M. Weiland. It’s pretty much an awesome workbook. It prompts you to think about so many parts of the story in the hopes that you wont miss key parts when you write. I still missed a lot of key parts (aka conflict) in my last novel but I learned, I moved on, and I hope to write a better one this time.
My writing question for the week: What is the LIE your protagonist believes?
