Synopsis: If only…he was the boy she’s been dreaming of.
Theatre girl Maddie Brooks has always had high standards for guys. But she has yet to find one who can live up to the classic Hollywood heartthrobs, especially the dreamy song-and-dance man Gene Kelly. When Maddie begins to carpool with Jesse Morales, her new neighbor and star pitcher of the baseball team, she’s struck by his wit, good looks, and love for his family—but a guy so into sports is definitely not her style. Then Maddie discovers that Jesse was raised as a dancer and still practices in the community theatre’s dance studio to keep in shape. Perhaps her perfect dream guy exists after all! But when it becomes clear that baseball—not dance—is Jesse’s passion, can Maddie find a way to let her dream guy go and appreciate the charms of the amazing guy in front of her?
This fun, high school theatre romance in the If Only line is for anyone who has ever wished for that impossibly perfect guy.
You guys, this book is ADORABLE! Baseball, theater, and Gene Kelly. *swoon*
So it might have been that I’ve been starved for the perfect contemporary romance to melt my heart and give me happy feels, or it might be that this was just the perfect book, but I picked up this book and never wanted to put it down. So I didn’t. It took a whole one day to read. In between picking kids up from school, soccer games, and music classes, I had this book glued to my hand.
I even spent my Sunday night eating yellow cake with chocolate frosting and watching Gene Kelly movies in Maddie’s honor.
Maddie loves Gene Kelley and as she starts to fall for a boy at school she finds all the similarities between him and Gene. So much so that he eventually yells “I’m not him!”. Yes, we’ve all been there, dreaming about someone who we will never meet, and hope that the one we fall for is exactly this elusive wish in our head. But what happens when we get what we want, find the perfect someone…sort of?
Maddie can tell us.
If you were Maddie, who would be your celebrity crush? Who is your “perfect” guy?
