Spoiler Free Review:
I LOVED THIS BOOK! Let me start with that. I don’t know if the book was amazing or if I really needed a good book, or if it was an amazing book that came to me at the perfect time. But from the very start I loved everything about this book. AND I loved this book even though it doesn’t have the typical Romance Storyline that I generally love in my books.
I listened to the Audiobook version and even though the book is written in multiple POV from the girl and boy perspective, it’s read with a male voice. At first I thought that was interesting. It seems that move books with female POV’s (or more POV’s) are read by women, but this was a change that I liked. I grew accustomed to the reader and it worked for all the POV’s in the story.
I also loved the two main characters. And even a few secondary characters. Vika and Nikolai are enchanters that have to magically prove themselves to the king. Only one can survive. Great set up right there, right?
I won’t go into much more of the set up and the stakes because it gives a lot away and as I was listening to the book I kept thinking, “whoa, this author is brilliant.”
But I will say this, have you read The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern? I enjoyed that book as well, by the way… for different reasons, but The Crown’s Game is very similar. The story is similar, the events are similar. Not the same, but similar.
Needless to say, GO READ THIS BOOK! You won’t regret it. And then spread the word and tell the world about this awesome, brilliant, author.
The end. Read this book.
